Almond Soda

happy hour, 2010

I wasn't sure where to buy such an ingredient, so I asked the owner of our favorite cafe if she carried almond syrup. My plan was to ask her where she bought hers, but before I could say another word she said "Oh, Orgeat, you want a bottle?" I think she gave me the wholesale price. We are regulars. North Beach likes regulars.

Almond Soda

2 tablespoons orgeat (almond) syrup
10 ounces sparkling water

Measure syrup into a pint Mason jar. Add sparkling water. Stir.

9/25/2010 Just tried adding a splash of cream. Tasty!

  2. So awesome to be a regular somewhere and be the recipient of such kindness. I love it. And your photo. (As for the soda, I'm afraid the only carbonated drink I like is beer. And that, too, was an acquired taste relatively late in life. Funny, no?)

    I hope things are well.

  6. I was going to ask if it was similar to a coffee flavoring syrup and then I clicked on the link and it was. I love your mason jars too--so much cooler than a regular glass.

my daughter prefers to drink out of an empty relish jar, cause it has cute little flowers around the rim...

  11. Thanks, everyone. You all make me smile. It's nice and much appreciated.

Maria, I've loved beer since I was a little girl, tiny sips from Dad's big frosty mug. I drink a lot of sparkling water. Once in a while I'll drink a sparkling lemonade, root beer, or cream soda. Pepsi, Coke, and the like...never.

lucy, Your daughter has good taste. I also have a honey jar I use as a drinking glass.

nancy, Caffe Trieste has stolen my heart, but Stella Pastry, Caffe Greco, Molinari Delicatessen, Tony's Pizza Napoletana, Vesuvio, and City Lights are a few other excellent North Beach haunts that come to mind.
