Hat, 2012
I kept meaning to ask the ever-inspiring Rachel what an FO was, and then I figured it out. It's knitspeak for a finished object (knitted object). So here's my most recent FO. A hat. I finished it this morning and I'm so pleased. I bought the yarn from Sophie at Bluebird Yarn in Sausalito. The yarn is a Merino Wool/Alpaca/Silk blend (Mirasol Sulka in Wine, Shade: 203). I found the Colour Sparks pattern on Ravelry. It is also available on Etsy. As you can see, I decided against the flower. I just wasn't feeling flowery.
It knit up quickly, well, there was a bit of drama last night, but it was silly, so I won't get into it. It fits perfectly. Completing it was a nice way to begin a day.
And that's not all. I recently finished some pretty sweet fingerless gloves. I used Madelinetosh yarn for the first time. Laurie from Greenwich Yarn (here in San Francisco) thought I would like it, and I did. Knitting with it was a treat.
Watch out, I'm moving, albeit slowly, beyond scarves...
It's a lovely hat. Perhaps one day we'll get to see you (from the back, reading a book) wearing it?
ReplyDeletemise, Ha! Perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI love the colourway, and it looks like a great (warm, comfortable, versatile) hat.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm wondering whether to repurpose the mossy green Sulka that I made into a not entirely successful beret, and try something similar...
tadaja, Tough call. Sometimes those not entirely successful projects carry sentimental value.
ReplyDeleteI must say also that I admire your knitting aesthetic very much: wood/bamboo needles, quality yarns, rich colours.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your future projects.
Beautiful color. Looks warm. Happily awaiting more of your FOs.
ReplyDeleteLove your hat. Fingerless gloves, in my opinion, are ridiculously addicting. Fair warning :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you! The hat is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful...I love simple pictures of FOs. There is something so poetic about them.
ReplyDeleteOh my! it's gorgeous, beautiful color. Madeline Tosh has amazing yarn!
ReplyDeleteJust in time for the cold cold weather. The color is gorgeous and your skill is perfection.
ReplyDelete(I have been having the hardest time getting your comment page to work. This happened last time too and I can't figure it out ???)
This is such a great colour for your gorgeous hat. Yay! to an FO!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fine hat, and such lovely yarn. I can imagine what a pleasure it was to work with.
ReplyDeleteBurgundy red: would go great with a glass of red wine sipped outside next to a fire...
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you knit next. I'd love to see a Denise original.
ReplyDeleteyay for the hat! It's a cute one and I love the color! Can't wait to see what you knit up next!
ReplyDeleteI love that hat. Love it.
ReplyDeleteand WIP = work in progress. Now you should be completely up to speed. So cool that you knit a hat (and are moving beyond scarves)!! And it's so pretty...
ReplyDeleteIsn't Madelinetosh amazing yarn to knit with?
I'm glad to be a knitting inspiration...
Thanks for all the kind words!
ReplyDeleteJanis, Oh no... Not sure what to say. I wish there was something I could do.
Rachel, Aha! WIP, now I'm really in the know. Thank you.
I need to be moving towards scarves. I am so inspired by the many amazing knitting projects that are happening all around me. My sister tried to show me the basics over Christmas but I was too busy cooking and having a mini mental meltdown to focus and learn. Now she has gone to Holland for six months so I guess it will be up to my 97 year old Grandma, who just happens to live next door, to show me. Wish us luck!
ReplyDeleteNicely done, Denise, and with still many months to wear it before spring arrives.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colour, sweet style, skillfully knitted and beautifully photographed. You are so talented.
ReplyDeletePS. I, too, had been having some trouble commenting earlier this week. Hence, all my comments tonight.
I knit, but not very well. I have kind of given it up. Your hat makes me want to take it up again and try harder. Beautiful color yarn.
ReplyDeleteTeresa, If you decide to take it up again, be easy on yourself. I suggest making something very simple. It will still be gratifying.
ReplyDeleteJulie, I've learned so much by searching knitting videos on youtube. Just in case you need a back-up.
