No no, definitely not dead. You've never seen one still? They are great! Tiny and delicate, with fierce pointy little beaks. Many are iridescent. The one I saw yesterday was proudly positioned at the tip-top of a tree, but not for long. I stopped and watched for a minute or so before he/she darted away.
