Well...

Winter Light, 2013

We're back together. I'm referring to my relationship with cappuccino, I never really parted with those little carrot muffins.

I was fine, addiction apparently kicked, so I decided I could have a cup every now and then. I tried it and my heart raced too quickly. I didn't like it, yet I tried again, hoping for the old feeling of contentment.

Well, it eventually returned. I'm pretty much back to my every-morning cappuccino. I find it especially pleasant during these cold short days, and it certainly helps me feel less like a bear longing to hibernate.

So...  How are you spending your cold short days? Tell me something inspiring. Or are you somewhere warm? If it is warm, tell me about your tomatoes.

  1. I've been wondering about how your no-coffee thing as going! I too cut back, but could never give up my morning strong black cup, especially now there's a lovely new cafe on the pier!

  2. I'm not somewhere warm, even though it is a mild winter by Copenhagen standards. I spend my cold days teaching teenagers about literature and art - not as 'glamorous' as it sounds. I spend my evenings baking Danish Christmas cookies for my December cookie challenge:-)

  3. Perhaps your days are not glamorous, but they are important. Many years ago, a teacher like you changed my life. Thank you for doing what you do.

  6. Oh dear god, I drink iced lattes all day long, winter, summer, fall and spring. Cold carrying them around in the winter tho'.

I'm glad you're back on the sauce because I feel less like a caffeine junkie.

I love cappuccino since the time we've been living in Rom, it's a wonderful way to start your day with a smile :)

  9. I'd like to have coffee on a pier like rusty{rambles}. And I'm glad you're back on the side of caffeine. I find there is nothing quite like that first cup of the morning.

I'm currently searching for the Santa Lucia doll that has gone missing (I suspect the 5yo) and am simmering chili on the stove - yum!

    1. Rusty is a lucky woman. Happy hunting, and enjoy your chili (I'm a big fan).

  10. I survive winter & darkness by drinking a cup of coffee every morning (as I do all year around), by lighting lots of candles, knitting, and taking walks after the kids are to bed... November and January are the slowest winter months for me. December is fun!

  11. Walking at night, all bundled up, is a nice idea. And I'll light some more candles. Thanks, Anne Marie.

  12. Two of my daughters have December birthdays, so I seem to be doing lots of baking these days, or fervently searching for the most excellent chocolate cake recipe (which doesn't particularly help my quest for a sugar-free diet). But I make chili too, and curried lentil soup, soups and pulses seem to be the order of the day. I walk in the evening, and then straight to bed with a good book. I read the comments above, and I saw these same things mirrored in what others have said.
    Enjoy your coffee Denise.

  13. I have a on-and-off relationship with cappuccino too. It switches on in the wintertime.

    1. It seems the best time to switch to the "on" position.

  14. reconciliation is a good thing!

I've been baking and merry-making in the kitchen--Italian cookies, brandied cherries, candied orange peel, panettone--some successes, some need-for-improvements, all fun on these short dark days.

    1. Yes, reconciliation. Excellent word choice.

Italian cookies? Oh, I want one. Is anise involved? And panettone. Fantastic, Nancy!

  15. I have cut out coffee (was keeping me up at night) but I switched to tea (loose leaf)... I like ritual, no matter the drink...
