Lucky, 2012
I'm not sure why, but it just started feeling like Christmas today. There is enough chill in the air for knit hats and scarves, and the sky is bright blue.
I'm taken back to my time in the Midwest, where I spent my best childhood winters. Especially the first snow of the season. Waking up to a neighborhood blanketed in white, all sounds hushed. Oh, I miss it.
But even without snow, I feel lucky. I have those memories, today, and tomorrow. This isn't the case for everyone.
I hope this season is all you want it to be.
Very well put, Denise, and your feeling like Christmas has just stretched across the wirelessness to me here, and is now my fellow feeling. Thank you.
ReplyDelete"all sounds hushed"... sounds perfect...
ReplyDeleteMay your holiday be special, Denise
We actually got snow here today, wet and slushy of course this being the coast, but snow none-the-less!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one. I enjoy wrapping myself in warm layers of clothing like an onion...all the soft clothing, the scarves (inside and outside the house), the socks. The grey sky inspires me...but then so does the blue sky in spring.
ReplyDeleteI miss the snow as well... though I have hardly stepped a foot in it. I can count the times I have been in snow on one hand. Never my snow, it belongs to someone else... I miss what I imagine snow is. Like the snow in storybooks :^)
It is true. We do live in quite the onion climate, Janis.
DeleteBeautiful. I have fond memories of snow from years past as a wee girl living in the country. Making snowmen, and loving the winter wonderland that came to surprise us each year. Today, the snow teases with just a hint. Perhaps another time, but that's okay too! Wishing you the happiest of Winters.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have your childhood memories of Midwestern winters while experiencing your present California ones.
ReplyDeleteMay you also have a beautiful holiday season, with new memories to join with the old. :)
ReplyDelete(p.s. I love the whale!)
We had our first snow fall yesterday. Ivan ran out and tried to make a snowman out of slush. Came back in twice to swap out his soaked clothes, and finally gave up. Poor fellow. Here's to all our memories in the making!
ReplyDeleteOh, poor little Ivan. I hope he makes a nice fat solid snowman this year and remembers its fabulousness for years to come.
DeleteOh God, snow. As an only child in Michigan I had to shovel pounds and pounds of the stuff.
ReplyDeletePretty? Yes. Hard workout? Hell yes.

I grew up in spring-like winters in the east of India. And in a few days, I leave the grey-quiet of England and go back home for a while.
ReplyDeleteTo memories, yes. Merry Chirstmas and a very happy new year, Denise.
I love your tableau of Christmas Holiday imagery on the table in front of a window. So cozy and intimate. Thanks and have a Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteTo you too, Denise.
ReplyDeleteOh my, time passes so quickly. Hope you are all safe and warm and enjoying 2013.
