One day I brought home a big fat red peony.

December, 2011

It's been good to me so far.

What's new with you?

  1. I've been waiting all morning to see this peony.

Just as I suspected, a red charm, my v. favorite.

Believe it or not we grow this one.

Sounds like a Christmas miracle doesn't it..

  2. Jane, You grow this one. Oh, to have several in my very own yard... Bliss. I thought of you when I bought this one.

  3. I got into my car this morning to drive to work, but it sounded and felt as if it were going to break down. So I went back inside. Emailed my boss. Just got finished putting some milk bread to proof in the front window. I might bake some cookies to take to the mechanic tomorrow morning. Or not. Anticipating my afternoon coffee and the mail to deliver the first disk, season one, Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Very soon- hopefully I'll catch you by surprise. Like the trees around here with cherry blossoms-
    In December...

  5. Peonies are roses with a bigger heart, i think, and a more delicate soul. I personally prefer them to roses. Especially in ancient heritage colors, like this dramatic burgundy one you got. In between emails and phone calls I am baking Christmas cookies... the house smells like cinnamon and orange peel and good thoughts.

  6. Peonies are my favourite flowers and how lovely that big red one is. Well, yesterday I made some orangettes and went to a Christmas market, today was a day off for fitness and reading the Master and Margarita - so far so good this week.

  9. I don't think I've ever seen a peony that color before. The deep red fits with this wintry weather we're having.

For me? Well, trying to get started on a new project but feeling sort of lazy. All I want to do is nap and eat pastry.

  10. Your peony is such a gorgeous colour.

Today, I've been figuring out what kind of bread to make this week. I'm thinking quick and easy in the dutch oven will be the way to go.

  11. so beautiful!
I have peonies in my backyard; I look forward each spring to their lush blooms.
    Special, on my front:
I've been caring for our new cat Sid--poor guy someone abandoned, who found us. He's a sweetheart w/ interesting markings--a Picasso face.

  12. So beautiful. I really should buy myself a flower. I made tons of granola today to send as gifts. Got a library card finally. That felt great. Nursing a cold and watching roman catch it from me this time.

  13. I love a Dahlia myself! Peonies and Dahlias are good mates i think! Though the Dahlia is most certainly the more extraverted of the two - the risk taker - overt. It is lucky to have a friend in the Peony - whose calm intuition, deep love and loyalty keeps its friend from going too far. You have a fine one indeed!

  14. Ahh there's something about the blowsy-yet-delicate-bigness of peonies... Love the deep red - wonderful. I hope all is well with you and your peony continues to be good to you :) Annie x

  15. peonies means spring and early summer to me. I had a bouquet of different pink peonies when I got married last year... Peony season seem so far away right now :-)

  17. Oh, this peony is well named. 'Red Charm' indeed. You might be surprised to learn how many thoughts this lovely little post has evoked in my Sunday morning brain. Not much is "new" with me other than my freshly painted walls. I'm trying to use them as metaphor and motivation for make some fresh beginnings in certain areas of my life.

Hmmm, this is not what I intended to write in my comment. I was going to tell you about the swelling pink buds on the peonies in our condo's courtyard garden. And then stumbling upon "Falu Red" while trying to colour-match your peony. Ah, well, the mind is wandering today...to good places. And now I'll let my feet follow it as I head out for walk with Piper around the seawall.

    Have a beautiful day.
