Rodeo Beach, 2011
He meant doing things not because we were expected to do them or had always done them or should do them but because we wanted to do them. He meant wanting. He meant living.
- Joan Didion The Year of Magical Thinking
The last 2 sentences, their spareness, their urgency resonate. Thank you, Denise.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to live a life!
ReplyDeleteIf only we all lived like that...
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays Denise!
this post reminds me of your archaeologist post. you selected the perfect quote from that book and paired it with beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteSomeday I'll get to that book.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos - very serene.
hmmm a way to live ones life i should think - easier said than done, but well worth striving for.
ReplyDeletechimes with Jobs - not living someone else's life. stripping life away to those things that give it purpose and delight for you: this is deeply meaningful to me right now. thank you!
ReplyDeletelovely.
ReplyDeletehope you had a great christmas!
enjoy the last days of december!
Such powerful words.
ReplyDeleteI missed this post last week -- I think I probably was distracted by your satsumas & thoughts of book recommendations.
ReplyDeleteBut the second day of the new year is a very appropriate time to think about doing & wanting & living. So I'm here, now, focused on the images & thoughtfully selected, oh-so-perfect quote. Because I want to. And now I'm writing a few grateful words for (yet again) the resonance & timeliness of your photographs & thoughts. Because I want to. No "shoulds" at all.
I shall strive to live more mindfully and honestly today.
Thank you.
