Knitting and Promises

Knitting in Paris, 2011

Remember my going on about my love of knitting, simple knitting, knitting as meditation? Remember the promise I made, the one that included a visit to Churchmouse? The ferry ride to Bainbridge Island? The search for the perfect Brooklyn Tweed? Well, it seems someone in Norway likes soot, Jared Flood's interpretation of the color soot. And she has such good taste in bookstores. I'm so very pleased.

  1. Hey lady- this is just gorgeous! Anne Marie is one lucky gal. I love the Shelter yarn, too, and can't wait to get my hands on a skein.

Knitting is so therapeutic! Since starting the craft two years ago, it has helped me through the winter months- easy peasy. No cabin fever here.

    Enjoy!

  2. Without a shred of reluctance I
went over to congratulate her and to drool over her scarf.

Lovely. There's always next winter, right?

  3. I haven't knitted for ages although the opportunity recently presented itself. A craft group in our farming community exists and I am tempted. I knitted a shawl for my baby daughter (now 20) and she still cuddles it every night and takes it to bed with her. Don't ask about the condition it's in! I felt perhaps it was time to make another one, you know, just incase the 'real shawlie' falls apart.

I love that about knitting. It reminds me of a time; and of a purpose. Lovely post Denise.

  6. the Lady, Thank you. Shelter was a really different yarn for me. I usually go for squishy soft yarn and this one was sturdy and hardy. I enjoyed it, but as you can see in this photo, I've reverted back to delicate and soft. Happy knitting.

jane, You are a good sport. So...I see you think I should do this again next winter. We'll see.

Mariana, I was a part of a knitting group once and really enjoyed it. It was when I was living in a more rural location. We met at the library and shared a big table. Everyone was kind and helpful and we laughed a lot. I miss those ladies. A new 'real shawlie' (love that!) for your daughter would surely be appreciated and cuddled.

abigail, If you are referring to the photo above, I found this yarn in a little shop in Brooklyn and I love it! It's almost as thin as thread and tiny needles are required, but it is soft and beautiful. I like watching the colors shift.

Raina, See what I wrote to abigail (again, if you are referring to the photo above). I'm so happy with this yarn.

  10. Both scarves...the one sent to Anne Marie and the one above...are beautiful. The subtle beauty in grey and the bold beauty as colors play with each other in your current one...
