I'd like to knit a scarf for you.

As you might have noticed, I like to knit. Knitting is a meditation of sorts for me, so I like to keep it simple. Knitting scarves is the perfect solution. I was thinking about how good you all are to me and decided I'd like to knit a scarf for you, well, one of you. I'd love to knit a scarf for each and every one of you, but I don't think my wrists would be quite as willing.

So here's the plan. I like the look of and the story behind the new Shelter yarn, conceived and developed by Jared Flood of Brooklyn Tweed. One of my favorite knitting shops, Churchmouse Yarn & Teas, just happens to be a flagship location for Brooklyn Tweed. Isn't this perfect? I'll be in Seattle in November and will ride the ferry to Bainbridge Island to purchase your yarn.

If you'd like a simple scarf to keep you warm this winter just take a peek at Brooklyn Tweed's palette and leave me a comment below with your color choice. The color names are pretty fabulous. I'm especially fond of Homemade Jam, Sap, and Pumpernickel.

I will select the winner on November 10th via a nifty random number generator I've found.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I'm on a scarf kick right now - I just cast off one last night which means I only have three on the needles now:)

I love colour 07 - button jar. But to be honest, I can't wear 100% wool around my neck (dratted sensitive skin - I can't even wear a necklace for more than a couple of hours). So I'll just cheer for someone else!

  2. What a delightful thing to do! If I was the lucky winner I'd choose Faded Quilt. When I saw the color swatches that one drew my eye and then when I saw it's name my heart melted! Thank you for your calming, beautiful, and inspiring posts.

  10. What a beautiful offer. You know I love homemade jam, but that would be my second color choice. First choice, fossil. And you've got a ferry ride to look forward to. Nice!

You know, I read today that "canning is the new knitting." I'm glad that, for you, knitting is still knitting.

  11. I'm so impressed at your knitting skills. I was in Portland this weekend and bought a skein of yard and my first knitting needles with the intent to knit my first scarf this winter. I hope it's not too hard!

  14. What a wonderful offer, Denise! I'm attaching many more of my young hopes to my entry than I normally do. Faded quilt, faded quilt, faded quilt...

  15. I'm restraining myself from saying "pick me" over and over again, and feel it would be better to say "gosh how incredibly generous of you." Those yarns are uber-lovely - and methinks should I be so lucky that Nest would be my choice....
I'm pleased your Sunday is rainy perfection, and have enjoyed catching up on your last few posts. I'm off now to explore Alexandria's blog - thanks for the link.

  18. you're quite an a amazing person, you know? Making something for us? your affectionate readers? that's lovely.
Faded quilt has something about the name that evoques cozy nights with warm water bags and a cub of mulled cider on an Indian summer somewhere in the middle of Massachussets...maybe? And the color is delightfully "snowy".
thank you for thinking of us!!!

  25. Oh, what a lovely thing to do. Torn between Long Johns and Button Jar for my favourite colour.
    Button jar, I think.

Full of admiration for Those Who Can Knit. Some day I'll learn and will make that contented clicketty-click sound.

  27. My mother taught me how to knit, but somehow the teenage angst and her critical eye and comments kept me from pursuing it. As the artist's life turns, I picked up a needle and explored fibre through needlework and later fibre baskets woven with waxed linen thread over a jute core. My mother said "I never knew you could create with anything other than yarn." But that said, I love knitted and woven fabric, always have and always will. Continue to enjoy your artistic expression with yarn.

  29. This is a very generous offer indeed (you must enjoy knitting scarves more than I!). I'll refrain from joining in...I think it would be awesome if a non-knitter won your gift. Perhaps it would turn them on to the craft? ;)

  30. Oh..! A scarf...! Knit by you...! What a beautiful gift that would be..! (Okay, fingers super crossed.)

You are so very thoughtful, Denise... This is such a special giveaway -- it just made me smile, regardless of who wins. The gesture itself makes me feel like I've already won.

But in case I can win again, I like woodsmoke. :)

    xoox.

  31. That would be so neat, a scarf made by you. On the other side of the Atlantic.

If I shouls be so lucky to win I love the colour homemade jam and soot. Either one of these two looks lovely. And I love surprises so if I win let it be a surprise which colour you choose of these two.

If I don't win (most likely) a paper scrap with one of your sentences or paragraphs would also be very neat...
