To the Top

Guardian Angel, 2016

It's been a while. How are you?

Much has gone on during my absence. I've been productive, which is a good thing, but I don't find productivity all that interesting. Do you?

When I think back to my time away, the experience that rises to the top is a trip to an off-season beach town where I found Patti Smith's M Train in the local library. It was a trip taken not long after my departure from social media, yet I don't think anything I experienced afterward felt as good.

Between getting bundled up and taking long walks at low tide, and quiet mornings with soft light entering the bedroom and falling upon Patti Smith's words and images, well, it doesn't get much better.

It's nice to be back. I hope you've been enjoying the start of this year.

  7. M Train had the same effect on me. I am now reading Just Kids which is equally captivating.

    1. I was introduced to Just Kids several years ago by a generous soul named Shae. Loved that book too.

  9. welcome back Denise. Unbeknownst, Bill and I gave each other M Street for Christmas! I've just started the book. I do love her writing. I recently finished Just Kids, which was haunting, beautiful, poignant. Bill says her words inspire him to be a better artist. wishing you well, Nancy

    1. I don't think I knew Bill was an artist. I am not surprised. A creative souls is best suited for a creative soul, or at least I think so. I've read both books, as well as Woolgathering, and I agree with Bill, she is inspiring. Enjoy the rest of M Train.

  11. Welcome back to the space! I'm not sure anything can top a beach visit in the off-season. We are trying to find time to go ourselves before the craziness starts but it looks like we may not make it. Reading your words has me considering pushing a little harder to make it happen.

  13. Finding notice that you'd returned (and already written two posts!) made me smile. I'd thought you'd taken an indefinite leave of absence, but I'm happy to be wrong.

    1. I departed 12/11 knowing I wanted to at least take a break for the rest of December and all of January. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about all of this internet stuff in February. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it.
