Weekend Project

One of Two, 2013

Done.

Two little rustic mats (6" x 7 1/4")  for hot plates, bowls, ramekins, or even small pots.

If you'd like to make your own, it won't take much time. You might even have the materials on hand.

I used a ball of twine, two size 13/9.0mm knitting needles, and scissors.

Cast on 16 stitches and knit, purl, knit, purl each row until you reach about 7 inches (or your desired length) and cast off. Weave in ends.

That's it.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

~Denise

  1. What a delightful thing you have made (perfect for a warm bowl of anchovy crumb strewn pasta - I think of you everytime I make that now, which has been a lot lately.) Tracy and Nancy are both coming to Rome this month so I have decided you should too. One day at least. Wishing you a good sunday x

    1. Oh, Rachel. I would so love to hang out with the three of you in Rome. Maybe eat a bowl of anchovy crumb strewn pasta made by the master. Yes...

  5. My knitting skills are not good enough to make a sweater or socks, but I do think I could manage this and am off to find all the items I need that are stuck about my house. Great idea and useful.

    1. They are pretty quick, Kate. You might even be able to make one while watching a swim practice.

  10. Awesome! After browsing through your lovely blog, Denise, I stumbled upon your beautiful jute coasters! I made a few of these a few years ago & sent them to a friend, who loves them. I found the idea/pattern in a book by ____? Cousins (a Scandinavian knitter, don't recall her name). It was a library book. Now I will knit more!
