Time Travel

Block Island, 2007

If I could travel through time I'd hop back into the day shown above, an autumn day on Block Island.  San Francisco just isn't doing it for me today.  I want some space.  I want some quiet.  I want some fresh and smoke-free air.

growl (definition #2)

This too shall pass...  I hope, or I might need a dose of Enchanted April.  Maybe some barbeque potato chips.

  1. Enchanted April and barbeque chips may help. But I would point out that NE Oregon has tons of space, quiet, and fresh-smoke-free air. You are welcome any time. ;)

    1. Don't be surprised if I show up with a deed to some property in your neck of the woods and supplies for my survival cabin.

  2. Whoa! I was just thinking this morning that I needed a little Enchanted April in my life as winter drags on. Or another comparable form of luxurious escapsim.

    1. It's a nice movie to keep in a back pocket, for times like these...

  3. Block Island? I need to find out where that is.

Hey, is everyone growling today, is it the moon? I am extra grumpy, dark, and growl-y today. I'm with ya Denise - Hope you find your peace today.

    1. Rhode Island, Janis. It could be the moon. I'm finding it is at 98.4% illumination today. Hope you find a little peace as well.

  4. Well, I haven't seen the moon in weeks it seems .... I'd just like some clear skies. Aside from wood smoke from house stoves, we're pretty fresh on the air quality around here :)

  5. I had my grump on Saturday. Today I came home from lunch/shopping/coffee with friends and as I went to take the dog for a walk I felt an incredible rush of gratitude.

Who can know. My own private Block Island.

Hope you started your day over.

    1. Good to know you moved on to a great day, Jane. After completing a nice chunk of work and making soup I had an entirely new perspective. It seems solutions need not be complicated.

  6. I clicked through to your Merriam Webster link and then played the audio pronunciation. That's always fun.

The good news for you is that you are scheduled for some open space next week. Hold on for a few more days Denise!

    1. Hello, Christopher. I love when you visit. Oh yes, listening to words on that site is good fun. I'm feeling more levelheaded today, but still looking forward to our mini-break. We can pretend we are Bridget (Renee Zellweger) and Daniel (Hugh Grant).

    2. Hugh Grant was better in Love Actually. I'd rather be that version.

  7. I spent a magical day at a wedding on Block Island in late summer, and met a couple who kept bees there. Heavenly quiet and lots of SUN!

    1. It's a nice place. We were in a very quiet section of the island. Our cottage was tiny and our view spectacular. The Greenway Trails were superb.

  8. I love that scene in Enchanted April where Rose and Lottie wake up to brilliant sunshine and scenic vistas after their dark and stormy night arrival. It's like a knot has been untied.

  10. I have never heard of Enchanted April, so I have ordered the book and the film. Thank you for the inspiration - as always.

    1. This might be the only instance where I believe I preferred the film over the book.

    2. Well, I will let you know. I will have that dilemma though - read the book or watch the film first? One always colours the other.

  11. Yes, let's all watch Enchanted April. Perfect.

  12. Oh and what a moon it turned out to be! I saw a friend, ate some protein (fish) and finally snapped out of it by midnight last night. Crazy.

Hope you were able to find a peaceful rhythm too. p.s. There is a place next to the Daphne if you are ever in need :^)

    1. I am jealous of your Daphne, Janis. I'm not sure if I'd know it if I saw it, but I do adore your description of it. I felt better after some work and soup making. I missed the moon last night. Darn...

  14. There is soundness to Emerson's last line about not tiring if we can see far enough. It sounds like there will be a horizon in your near future, and in the meantime, sterkte, as the Dutch say.

  15. I wouldn't mind time travelling back to your memory and that view. enchanted april...do you know I've never seen the film? love the book (von Arnim's books in general) so perhaps the film will assuage a little of my springly yearning.

  18. Good grief! and here I would kill to be in San Francisco...anywhere right now but in Calgary. You live in one of my most favorite cities. I am trying to scheme a long weekend there soon.

  19. There are some days I wish I lived in the country...with trees and grass and rolling hills...too. But then I suppose I would miss San Francisco.

  20. Enchanted April sounds like it could be the perfect antidote, especially if you have a bowl of BBQ potato chips perched nearby. I hope the weekend is a good one for you Denise. Annie x
