Hmmm...

pretty cotton, 2012

I'm not sure what it is yet.  The pattern tells me it is a dishcloth, but it's just too pretty.  Washcloth?  I thought it might be a trivet, but Merriam-Webster says trivets have legs or feet and are typically made of metal.  A place to rest a hot pot?  A place mat?  Oh, I know.  How about a doily?  But what does one do with a doily?  And must they be circular?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

xx,
Denise

  1. I have legless trivets that are made of newspaper... so perhaps revolt against the confines of old M-W? Or you could stitch it on three sides to a canvas tote as a pretty pocket? It is quite pretty.

  2. I made my mother-in-law what I thought was a hemp/silk washcloth, and she thanked me for the lovely dresser scarf. So I figure it can be whatever you so happily choose!

  3. Maybe it does not have to have one single purpose...maybe it can change identity as it is moved from place to place, room to room...or maybe I have a bag full of similar somethings, that are still waiting for me to stitch them up into a blanket...hmm Wishing you better luck with this Denisse.

  4. Could it be the top of a pill-box hat?

  5. i would put flower base on it, it will be pretty or use when serving homebaked cookies when friends come over. i am sure that the pretty pattern will lead to good conversation..

  6. whatever it is, it's fascinating the you made it (I am not needle-inclined -maybe I should try, even though my fidget-diness would not support me)
I think this little blue lacey piece makes a wonderful cold-n-rainy-day steamy-tea-cup holder for next to a pillowy-sofa with a good book, and a reminder that you "can" do anything you wish.

  7. I see a tea cosy in the making. It seems a fine thing to knit a sweater for your tea pot at this time of year.

  8. Might it possibly be the beginnings of a hot water bottle cover? Looks lovely either way!

  9. Hmmm...according to google (the oracle of all knowledge) a doily is an ornamental mat which one places under decorative objects. There's no mention of the need for it to be round.... But I do think this is rather too nice to be hidden away under a 'decorative object'....

  10. You could fold it in half and make into a little coin purse :-)

  11. Perhaps you could put it in a frame. It would be lovely on the wall. Is that odd?

  12. It's not too pretty to be a dishcloth- you deserve that beauty in your kitchen, don't you?

  13. I'd go with a mat for a hot pot, like a teapot. It would make your afternoon tea so pretty.

  14. I like it - as it is, cloth
For the wall, to keep under coffee or a plant,
    Keep a night mouse warm.
    Beautiful Denise, keep on going

  15. Good ideas! So many good ideas you inspired me to go out and find more of this yarn. I was successful. I've made some items for the shop and also made a small square for myself, to match my large square. I'm considering both multi-use. The small square currently has a little vase resting on it. The large square is simply looking pretty at the moment. Thank you, all of you. You are the best.

  16. I'm glad that you decided to display your square with a vase...I think it's very pretty and love the transition of colors. Funny how when I finally feel like I can resume the blog world, I find you knitting. I love it.

  19. I have a friend who made me some very beautiful dish cloths that look like the one you are working on. I, too, thought they were too pretty to use in the kitchen, but one day I grabbed one and used it and it made me very happy to wash dishes with beauty!
